Transport Operative

ZSL Whipsnade have a new, full-time, permanent opportunity as a Transport Operative whose goal will be to support the team. You will be part of the team's mission to use sustainable and creative methods in achieving everyday tasks to work smarter and not harder.

You will be instrumental in supporting the team with their departmental goals and objectives and completing everyday tasks in various areas such as driving, maintaining and carrying out routine checks to a variety of vehicles. The role also includes the transportation of materials, animals, animal food, waste and assist with stores operations the post room, animal food stores, warehouses and transport.

• You will be required to drive vehicles (car, vans, flat bed vans etc). Ability to drive the zoo’s telescopic handler would be advantageous.
• You will be required to interact with guests promoting a high level of customer care.
• You will support animal moves/collections both internally around site and externally to other zoo’s, animal collections and airports.
• You will support, guide or oversee some non-ZSL personnel whilst on site - these may include contractors, inspectors or any other personnel that is required.
• The post holder will need to ensure that the vehicles are clean and tidy at all times - this will involve the post holder washing and cleaning vehicles.
• The post holder will also need to carry out other duties which are outside of their general duties, these will include but are not limited to assisting the Grounds teams with a variety of tasks and assisting setting up events or functions.

• The post requires the appropriate level of logistical skill, knowledge and experience.
• The job holder must hold a full clean UK driving licence to include category C1 and category D1.
• The position requires wide-ranging practical experience of working in amenity logistics, ideally in a zoo or visitor experience-based organisation.
• The job holder is expected to have knowledge in working in a logistics environment.
• The position requires knowledge of health & safety, logistical and environmental legislation.
• To be able to communicate with a wide variety of people
• To be able to carry out frequent manual handling tasks
• Physically fit
• A high standard of literacy and numeracy skills are essential 
• Able to work weekends and bank holidays as part of a rota shift pattern

Please note: Working hours can include early starts and are based on a 37.5 hours working week, including weekends. Candidates that do apply must be aware that the position will be physically demanding and will require flexibility and the ability to work in a variety of conditions both indoors and outdoors. Due to the nature of the position candidates must also possess a full, clean UK driving license.
