Role Profile

ZSL’s Engagement team have a new permanent opportunity for a Graphic Technician, to join our Interpretation Team, whose goal will be to support the Engagement team in informing and inspiring our visitors through on-site creative interpretation.

As a Graphic Technician, you will be part of the team's mission to inform and inspire our visitors through the maintenance of creative interpretation across the UK’s largest Zoo.

Reporting into the Community and Learning Manager, you will be instrumental in supporting a key method in ensuring our visitors have a fantastic experience at our Zoo’s. You will be an integral part of the Zoo community, being a central creative support for teams including the animal team, our events and programming team, the visitor services team and our creative studio. Your approach to supporting the Zoo site will be crucial in achieving our communication through interpretation on site. We expect this post holder to take this on with passion and promote an inclusive mindset. You will be the advocate of sustainable material and be given support to investigate new, sustainable methods and material as we as innovative designs in engaging with visitors.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

In this role, you will draw on their technical, creative and co-ordination skills to maintain innovative interpretation designs at ZSL Whipsnade Zoo. This role works across a range of areas including exhibit maintenance, visitor information and event material.  The post holder will be responsible for co-ordinating maintenance production of interpretive graphics throughout ZSL Whipsnade Zoo and producing all routine signs and notices.


Collaborating with the Central Creative Studio, you will be instrumental in ensuring that our visitors are kept up to date with all the activity in the Zoo and our conservation work. You will also be instrumental in ensuring the high quality visitor experience is maintained.

 

What will you be doing?

  • Ensure current interpretation on site is enhancing the visitor experience
  • Maintain innovative interpretation designs at ZSL Whipsnade Zoo
  • Be responsible for installation of small design projects
  • Be responsible for producing large format printing work on a variety of substrates for departments, procuring materials and supplies for production of signs
  • Work with colleagues to redevelop existing interpretation to increase the visitor experience within the Interpretation budget.
